About Us
Nothing About Us Without Us
The National Independent Tenant Voice Cymru (NITVC) is a tenant-led, independent national body created by and for social housing tenants in Wales. We exist to ensure that tenants’ voices are heard at the highest levels and that decisions about our homes, communities, and futures are shaped by lived experience. Independent of government and landlords, we work collaboratively - but are accountable only to tenants. Our mission is to close the accountability gap in social housing, amplify real tenant voices, and advocate for safe, affordable, good-quality homes where every tenant has the right to be heard.

WHO WE ARE
We are a group of tenants who want to build a national independent organisation so that tenants across Wales can have our voices heard at all levels.
We believe that tenants need to be ‘in the room’ before any important decisions are made about our homes and communities – from rents and repairs to safety and quality standards.
The organisation we are building will be owned and led by tenants based on the following principles:
-
We will be independent and tenant run – ‘for tenants, with tenants’.
-
We will look to work co-operatively with landlords and other partners, but only tenants will decide who we are and what we do.
-
We will campaign to make sure everybody has the right to a safe, good quality, affordable home.
-
We will fight to make sure that every tenant has the right to be heard by their landlords, government and other organisations with power over their lives.
-
We will be open to all tenants and encourage those less well represented to join us across Wales’ many diverse communities.
Our Board
What We Do
We recognise we need to build a credible organisation – we are on a journey and make no claim to represent tenants across Wales at this point although this is our ambition.
We know already that there are many other individuals and groups of tenants who share this ambition and we are reaching out to them.
We will make sure the door is open to all and that the chance to take part is widely known. This open invite means tenants will have every opportunity to shape NITVC from the outset and as we develop.
We are very keen to work in partnership with others such as TPAS Cymru, Acorn, CHC, CIH and Tai Pawb based on mutual respect. We will be seeking to work with progressive landlords across Wales.
The Grenfell tragedy showed us what happens when tenants aren’t listened to and sadly there are still examples of what happens when we are ignored. We want NITVC to make sure our voices are heard locally and nationally. “Nothing about us without us” drives us forward and the more tenants who are in involved, the louder our voice and greater our impact.
